Troubleshooting

-The distribution blower is the fan responsible for blowing hot air into the room. Often times this blower will become coated in dust and pet hair. If you feel like the blower is not moving as much air as it once did, the motor should be cleaned. If this does not resolve the issue the motor may need to be replaced.

-Many stoves are also equipped with a high-limit sensor. If your high-limit sensor is tripping or you are receiving a high-limit error code on your board this may indicate that the blower is not moving as much air as it should.

FAQs

How much does a blower help a wood stove? ›

No, a blower does not affect the efficiency, burn times or heat output of a wood stove. Instead, it pushes air around the stove's exterior, heating it and releasing it back into the room. Blowers/fans are always mounted on the outside of stoves and will not push air into the firebox.

Does a wood burning stove need a blower? ›

Without a fan, you will get radiant heat from the front, both sides, the top, and even the back of a free-standing wood or gas stove. But by adding a fireplace blower fan to your appliance, you will enjoy convective and radiant heat.

Is it worth having a fan on a wood-burning stove? ›

Since your home gets up to a cosy temperature more quickly and more efficiently, a woodburner fan can actually save you money by reducing the amount of fuel you need to burn.

Are fireplace blowers worth the money? ›

That's great, but why should you have one? Well, because it increases the efficiency of your fireplace. Without a blower or fireplace fan, a significant amount of heat is lost. It'll keep the firebox and your chimney comfortable in the middle of winter, but not your home like it's supposed to.

How much electricity does a blower on a wood stove use? ›

Using a national average of $0.14 / kilowatt hour, running a 35-50 watt blower 24 hours a day for 365 days would cost between $35 - $50 annually.

How can I make my wood-burning stove more efficient? ›

Use Dry Wood

Properly dried and seasoned wood, at about 20 percent moisture by weight, has about 12 percent more available energy in it than if you use it when it is freshly cut at 45 percent moisture. On top of that, residential wood stoves tend to burn more efficiently when using dry wood.

When to turn on a fireplace blower? ›

By activating your blower fan early in the process, you can look forward to radiant burning a fire in your fireplace. Using a powered heater with a blower unit allows more hot air to warm the room before the heat gets lost up the chimney flue.

How do I increase the airflow in my wood stove? ›

Dampers. Dampers allow you to control the airflow and the fire's intensity in the wood stove. Regulating Airflow: Properly adjusted dampers can significantly influence the stove's burn rate and heat output.
