Classes for aides ROCKLIN Classes specifically designed for teacher aides will be offered at Sierra College this summer. Classes will cover the metric system, humanistic behavior and first aid techniques. All classes will meet from 8 to 10 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and will be taught by Bill Boatman and Nancy Claytor. Elderly, topic for seminar ROCKLIN "Preparing for Outreach to Elders" is the title of a two-day seminar to be offered by Sierra College at the Stella Irving Wing of the Auburn Recreation Center, June 20 and 27. Designed for professional, volunteers and students who work with or are preparing to work with the elderly, the sessions are being funded by the Older Americans Act through the Area Four Agency on Aging. There is no charge. Registration will be at 8:30 a.m. both days, with the programs beginning at 9.

Recycling drive raises funds CITRUS HEIGHTS United Methodist Women of the Citrus Heights United Methodist Church has been collecting aluminum cans for recycling as part of a fund-raising drive to refurbish Sunday School rooms. Cans may be deposited at the church.

Cans will be taken to the recycling center each Thursday until the fund-raising goal is reached. Aluminum cans are worth 17 cents a pound (14 cans per pound). Flag Day program set Roseville Elks Lodge will celebrate Flag Day with a program Sunday featuring speaker Col. Eugene Ragle, USAF retired, with the public invited to attend. The 3 p.m.

Rose School students CITRUS HEIGHTS Democrat Ben Franklin and Republican Jean Moorhead will face each other on the November ballot for the 5th Assembly District. Franklin, surpassed eight Democratic candidates on Tuesday's ballot with 23.7 percent of the vote for a total of 11,187. Ms. Moorhead, 39, took 75.5 percent of the Republican vote to defeat Douglas Campbell, 23. Moorhead tallied 18,601 votes and Campbell 6,050.

The two top vote getters will vie for. Assemblyman Eugene Gualco's seat in November. Gualco lost in his bid to replace John Moss in the 3rd congressional district. Moss didn't seek reelection. Gualco tallied 29,909 votes, not enough to overcome Robert Matsui, who garnered 36,989.

Final count on other Democratic candidates for Moss' seat were: Phil Isenberg, Terry McGann, Ivaldo Lenci, 2,311. Matsui will face Republican Sandy 'Smoley in November. She defeated Joseph Murphy by a vote of 35,121 to 20,752. The 5th Assembly District includes Citrus Heights, Del Paso Heights, Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Orangevale, Fair Oaks, Rio Linda, North Highlands and portions of downtown Sacramento. Mail taken at post office Four post office boxes have been broken into at the U.S.
