Just like candy, stain my teeth and rot my mouth - Cassianstars7 - Wind Breaker - にいさとる (2024)

Excitement roars in the ring, the crowd scream and holler as they see the champion that’s won all fights, the fighter roars and bangs his chest to hype the crowd. The man leading this whole ring sits on the chair above as he huffs out a laugh, as the contestant keeps on hyping himself and the crowd up, the people raise their colored paper slips as they bet on the champion to win.

The man, Yato, takes a bite out of his salmon, and spits it out to sound the bell.

It’s sound echoes throughout the ring.

The screams get louder and as the fighter turns around there’s someone already having a stance, the fighters’ eyes widened, and the other person gets closer to do a fast uppercut to knock down the so called ‘Champion.’

Yato’s eyes widened in disbelief.

The crowd gasps and groans as some realized they lost their money.

In the mist of it all a man smiles proudly at his fighter.

The shock and disbelief quickly changed into roars of excitement and laughter.

A teen stands in the middle of the ring, his hair is full black, piercings on his ears. He has gnarly and slightly gruesome scars scattered across his back and his arms. The upper top of his body is bind with bandages and also his hands and wrists are too. He wears loose black pants with knee pads and he raises the hand he uppercutted the other fighter with.

He clenches it as his marble gray-blue eyes narrow and black paint is shown to be under his eyes and to the corners of his mouth.

Coins are spinning on the counter of a bar as an alcoholic beverage is poured messily into two glasses, the man, Fuji, pats the teens’ shoulder and Sakura puts a hand onto the man’s wrist. Fuji smiles proudly at him and Sakura gives a wicked grin.

Fuji stands in the crowd as people cheer on for the new fighter in the ring.

Yato gives a satisfied and greedy smile as he sinks his teeth in to the flesh of the fish in his hand as his eyes never leave the match.

Sakura moves backwards as his fists are raised with his face twisted into a scowl.

Fuji lifts his glass and so does Sakura, their glasses full of alcohol meet aggressively, and the liquid spills.

Fuji tips his head back as he gulps the beverage like he’s never have before.

Sakura stares at the glass, his brows are furrowed. He mentally decides on whether he should pass of drinking, he’s never have a lick of alcohol before, and that makes him sort of nervous.

He bites the inside of his mouth.

Fuji lets out a bellow laugh as he slams his glass down, “Ahh! That hit the spot!” He raises his hand and wipes his mouth, and he glances at Sakura.

“Huh. You not gonna drink?”

His tone sounds almost like a whine.

Sakura bites the inside of his mouth harder as he swallows down his fear, he tips his head back and the alcohol burns as it enters his mouth and goes down his throat.

He slams the glass down and fights the urge to cough hard, “I ain’t a chicken.” He points a finger accusingly at the other.

Fuji grins, almost animal like.

Sakura looks in the mirror as he dips his finger into the black paint and runs it down under his eye.

Sometimes, Sakura can’t even recognize himself anymore.

Sakura wears his boxing gloves as he punches the bag repeatedly, he has to train himself to be better, to be a winner.

Take the top spot.

Every fight comes a different fighter, each with their fists raised and each time Sakura always punches, kicks, backfists, and ect.

Yato keeps on a the sleazy grin as his appetite is never full as he is always eating.

Sakura screams out in the ring as the roars of the crowd almost cover his own, it’s a scream of frustration. He has on his leather jacket now in this fight.

Bets come in now in the color he’s assigned to. Every person in the crowd from up above throws up a blue color paper slip, and one hand arrives too late.

It’s a hand that has tattoos on the back of that persons’ hand.

Sakura continues yelling out in response to his win as he turns around and lifts a fist in the air.

Sakura punches a fighter repeatedly in the stomach. Each opponent he faces is different, he always dodges and lands a quick punch to the jaw.

One of the fighters almost got a hit on him, but he quickly moves out of the way to back fist them.

The black dye in his hair starts to fade, and white strands of hair peak out.

Coins are on the counter.

Each person is knocked out on the ground.

Fuji has one arm wrapped around Sakuras’ neck and the teen also has one arm wrapped around the older man’s back.

They cheerfully lift their glasses in the air as they sway side to side to the beat do the music in the background.

Lights flicker and flashed.

Sakura lets out a laugh as he has on a bright smile, cheeks flushed with red.

Sakura puts his head in the sink that’s filled with water

He stays in there for a bit.

Sakura repeatedly punches a downed opponent. His back muscles shown strain, his bandaged knuckles are shown to be stained with blood.

Yato laughs.

Fuji’s smile wavers.

The lingering figure in the crowd grins with all their teeth.

Sakura lifts his head from the water.

The water sticks to his hair and it drips to his face.

The black paint is washed away and it stains his face.

The black dye settles into his hair.

Sakura lifts his head, he closes his eyes to avoid the sharp light in the ring. Blood starts to drip from his nose to his lips.

He opens his eyes as they are half-lidded before closing them again.

He tilts his head back and forth as his body sways slowly.

The downed opponent lays flat on the ground, the man is knocked out.

Sakura lays sprawled in his futon in the run-downed apartment he rented in, he turns to change his position as he tries to find a comfortable sleeping position.

A few beer bottles start to appear in the corner of his room.

Sakura gets up to get all his frustration out in the punching bag hanging in middle of his room.

Sakura rests a bit.

Sakura punches the bag, he feels a bit weak.

He ignores it.

The bottles and glasses start to pile up until they appear on the kitchen counter and in his room.

He stands in front of the mirror of the tiny restroom as he applies the black paint to his face.

There’s smudge and faded paint on from yesterday.

As he looks in the mirror, Sakura feels something start to build up to his throat. It was the bile.

Sakura lets out a retch as he grips the sink tighter as his knuckles turn white. He coughs.

He turns to stick his face in the toliet, retching out the vomit. Tears start to prickle in his eyes but he forces none to fall, his nose however gets full of snot.

”T’is su’ks.” He slurs out the words as more bile starts to build up and burn his throat more.

He hasn’t had proper food in days now.

Sakura lays his face onto the cool countertop, his arms all sprawled as his hand holds onto the glass of alcohol tightly.

Fuji snatched the glass out of the drunk teens’ hand.

People are dancing in the background as bright lights flashed and flickered.

Sakura slaps his hand on the man’s shoulder and shoves him a bit, he lets out an annoyed whine.

Sakura has his arm around Fuji’s shoulder as the man wraps an arm around the others’ torso to keep him steady.

Both are at the stairs of the teens’ apartment.

Sakura stumbles and sways as he blinks too many times, he looks at the empty alleyway.

He narrows his gray-blue eyes to try and focus on who that is.

Ah.

It’s Yukine.

’Yukine’ has on a sweet and soft smile as the corners of his eyes crinkle.

Sakura stares angrily at the mirror, his nose scrunched up as he is done applying the black paint to his face.

Coins spin on the counter.

Sakura snarls in anger as he delivers a quick punch to his reflection and the mirror cracks from the impact.

Sakura punches the ground a few times and he lays on his knees as he screams at the top of his lungs, the downed fighter is sprawled on the ground.

Sakura raises his fists as he sways side to side, he can’t really see what’s going on in front of him anymore.

Black lights flicker as Sakura’s hair is faded and the white strands of his hair peak out as so do his white eyelashes and eyebrow.

He’s dancing with somebody, but it’s hard to make out the figure.

It’s.. Yukine?

Right?

He’s dancing with him.

But the image changes into a man that looks a few years older than him, he opens his mouth and as he does salvia spills out.

Sakura is back in the ring.

The fighter in front of him frustrates him.

He feels his arm back and—

—Punches the man who was too close to him

Blood bursts out from his nose as he lifts a hand to cover from all the blood rushing and staining his face.

Sakura yells at the man, pointing fingers at him and making gestures at him.

Another person holds back the man with the bloodied and perhaps broken nose as he tries to get into a fight with boy.

Sakura tries to get close to the man but Fuji holds him back by his shoulders, he holds Sakura back as he yells at him.

But the teen keeps trying to push forward and Fuji keeps on shoving him back.

Sakura flips off the man and continues shouting out intangible words.

Fuji and Sakura keep their distance from each other.

Fuji looks down at his drink that’s filled to the top, he hasn’t drunken it yet.

Sakura looks down at the ground, trying to make sense of it, his empty glass sits patiently, it’s as if it’s waiting to be refilled again.

Lights flashing and flickering through the ring.

Even though the room is filled with people, Sakura finds himself thinking that he’s all alone.

It’s suffocating in here.

Fuji carries Sakura back to the teens’ run-down apartment, but the black haired boy just escapes from his grip and shoves him by the shoulder.

And he sways a bit before recovering himself as he waves a hand in the air.

Sakura aggressively punches the bag.

It sways until Sakura grabs it by his hands.

He leans himself forward.

And rests his head onto the bag.

His expression is one of anguished.

Fuji turns away, his expression is one that is done with the teen, he lifts his arm up to wave goodbye as he leaves the teen to walk unsteadily up the stairs.

Sakura holds onto the railing as he stumbled and mumbles out curses under his breath.

Sakura’s bottom lip trembles.

He closes his eyes tighter.

He screams out.

Not in frustration.

But.

Despair.

For howalone he is.

Sakura lifts his glass up, the liquid sloshes and spills, he’s cheering and toasting to nobody but himself. His knuckles wrapped with bandages have faded blood on them.

His head sways a bit as he blinks away the black spots and color hue of lights attacking his vision. He puts the glass down as he slumps in his seat and puts his head down abruptly to lay on the cool countertop.

A figure in the crowd stands there, lingering and watching at the teen. The man’s hair is fluffy and black, his snake green eyes dimmed a little at the sight. The latter has tattoos on his neck, arms, and hands.

Sakura drunkenly stumbles when he reaches the apartment, he holds onto the wall but he trips and falls onto the ground.

He caught himself with one arm and his eyes look upward, and his face has scratch marks. He sees Yukine screaming angrily at him,

Why?

You know why.

Sakura dips his head into the sink filled with water.

He screams out inside it.

Bubbles emerge.

Sakura tiredly puts his fists up.

The paint on his face is messy and not as neat as before.

His knuckles are stained with faded blood, the black haired teen isn’t sure if it’s from the previous opponent or from his own bruised and bloodied knuckles.

Sakura puts his hands on his face.

He brings his hands down to roll down his face, he pulls his eye a little while doing this.

Sakura feels tired and unmotivated, his fingers get stained with the black paint.

The makeup gets smudged and a bit ruined.

Sakura swings a punch, weak and messy. The fighter dodges out of the way and the teen barely gets a chance to recover, to recognize his surroundings as he sways a bit.

He gets clocked by the jaw, his head swivels to the side as he spits out salvia.

The man in the crowd still lingers there, the blue paper slip crushed in his hands as he balls it up.

Sakura gets clocked, punched, and back fist by different opponents.

They angrily and greedily take every chance to take a swing at him when he’s swaying and not focus at all.

After many punches, Sakura’s body falls backwards and his back this against the hard concrete of the ring floor.

Sakura’s body hits the hard floor his apartment, he breathes in a shaky breath as his eyes are closed.

His face is bruised, bloodied, and swollen from all the swings the fighters did on him.

His face is still slathered with smudged black paint and black lipstick. His nose has blood dribbling out as it dries.

The bandages that bind his chest has dry blood, and his collarbone has a few cuts and scratches.

His vision gets blurry, and he lightly closes his eyes.

Luckily, tomorrow’s his day off.

Sakura blacks out.

The next day, Umemiya helps Kotoha serve some Furin 1st years as a treat for helping the 2nd years of catching Risa-chan.

Suo politely bows, Nirei stutters out an excited response, and Umemiya ruffles his hair. The atmosphere was warm and cheery, Kotoha goes to the sink to wash some dishes and Umemiya picks up leftover plates from the tables.

A shadowed figure is shown to be in front of the café, he grabs the handle of the door, the bell rings, and he steps in.

Kotoha perks up, “Welcome—“ She looks up and she paused.

A man that looks to be in his mid twenties with light brown shaggy hair, scars littered on his face, and light blue eyes. He looks to be on the muscular side. He steps in and Suo feels himself tense up, Nirei shrinks and leans more into his classmates side.

Umemiya tenses up but doesn’t let it show, “Oh, hello! What would you like?” He puts on a big smile.

The man grunted and he opened his mouth, “You lot are in Furin, right?” He takes out a flask from his pocket and he tilts his head to drink from it.

Umemiya’s smile doesn’t waver, “Yep!” He says popping the ‘p’, “What can we do for you, sir?”

The man takes a moment to finishing downing onto the flask as he puts it onto the countertop and wipes his mouth by the back of his hand, “..There’s this kid about your freshman’s age and I want ya to help ‘im out.”

Suo tilted his head, “Excuse me, but what can you be more specific.” He plasters on a small smile.

The man seems annoyed as he lets out a groan, he brings a hand to rub at the bridge of his nose, he sighs, “Look, it’s—there’s this underground fightin’ ring that I participate in. I don’t fight but I’m a trainer and a so-so mentor to the fighters I pick.”

Kotoha turns off the handle for the sink.

Nirei’s eyes shine in curiosity as he slowly takes out his notebook and pen.

Umemiya’s smile turns into a slight frown.

The man’s expression looks like he’s remembering something, “I was out in the streets in the Red Light District lookin’ for a fighter since the previous one got injured so bad. And I see this kid fightin’ off a whole gang by himself, and I thought, ‘He looks like a good candidate.’ So I offered ‘im to be a fighter in the ring.”

Suo looks at the man with a dark and narrowed eye.

”I didn’t really think he’d actually take the offer, ya know? But, when he arrived at the place he took out the all time winner of the ring in one swing. Then, he got into more fights and I noticed the pressure that the kid had so I bought him a drink.” The man runs the back of his neck and laughs, “Man, that kid is prickly and aggressive when ya first met ‘im, but when ya get ‘im to drink, he’s all smiles and laughs.” The man’s smile wavers.

Umemiya’s fist clenched tight as he tries to keep the snarl building up from his throat.

Kotoha brings a hand to cover her mouth as her eyes widen in anguish and anger.

Suo stands up and strides to stand beside the leader of Bofurin. Nirei puts away his notebook and pen as he bites his lip and his entire body shakes in anger, his eyes gather tears but they don’t fall.

”Anways,” The man shrugs like he didn’t peer-pressured a minor to drink alcohol, “The kid talks a whole lot when he’s drunk, I didn’t really ask ‘im to tell me anythin’ ‘cause that’s his business, ya know? But, I could tell that he carries some real heavy stuff and his eyes give away a grief of some sort. I don’t know.” He shakes his head and purses his lips, “I just—he’s not all that well anymore, I haven’t been around much, but I heard that the kid has been losing some fights and people have started not to bet on ‘im anymore.”

He sighs hard, “Some people say he looks burnt out and not even givin’ his all anymore. It’s a completely different version of the fiery kid in the beginning.”

”So what do you want us to do.” Suo’s voice hardens.

The man blinks, “I just want ya to work your Furin magic on ‘im, get him the help he needs and just—be there for the kid. Last I check, he looks like he don’t got anyone else to.” The man takes out a piece of paper with an address written on it, “Look, he’s not a bad kid. He’s one of the real good ones and I don’t want him to get involved with things that he shouldn’t mess with or with someone that’ll take advantage of ‘im anymore.”

He hands it to Umemiya and the older teen takes it, “That’s his address, I have it memorized by now from the amount of times I had to take his drunk ass home ‘cause he was so wasted.”

Nirei grits his teeth as he tightens his grip on his pants. Suo looks at the man with a cold eye.

“And what’s the kids name?” Umemiya asks.

The older man shrugs, “Dunno, never really gave me his real one, he just told me to call ‘im, Haru. Which I assume is something short for his real name.” The man picks up his flask as he turns to leave, he opens the door, the bell rings.

“Oh, and today’s his day off so he should be there. But, if he’s not try the bar in the Red Light District, the one where the Roppo Ichiza are located. And the kid has dyed black hair—He used to have I think half white hair? I’unno I couldn’t really see under his hood, his eyes are a gray-blue kind.” He waves hand.

Umemiya gives a short nod, “And you? What’s your name.”

The man pauses and turns to give a sleazy grin.

”It’s Fuji.”

Umemiya brings a hand to rub at his face, he give a heavy sigh. He looks down at the address, ‘This kid.’He turns his head to look slightly down at the first year, Suo. He’s got a hard expression, his fists are shaking.

He turns his eyes to Nirei, his face is one of anger and nervousness, and he turns to his little sister, she nervously chews her lips, sweat drips on her face, and her expression is one of anguish and also anger.

“Alright, here’s what we’ll do.” He claps his hands, grabbing everyone’s attention, “I’ll go to the district to check in with Kanji and Tsubaki-chan is both have seen the kid.” He nods his head to Kotoha who gives one back, shakily.

He points to the Furin students, “Nirei and Suo, you’ll go the kids’ address to either meet with him and bring him back here.” He hands the note to Suo who gently holds it in his grip.

“Sound good?” Umemiya gives a thumbs-up.

Nirei gives one back as he gives a confident nod. He purses his lips, “What if we can’t convince him to come with us?” He asks, a hand comes to ruffle his messy blonde hair.

“Then, just keep him company!” The representative of Bofurin gives him a big smile, “I’ve gotta look out for all my family, this little brother strayed away, so we’re gonna bring him back to us.” His hand stops and he goes to grab his jacket that rested on a seat.

He looks at Kotoha and he opens his arms, she collapses as she held him tight. He brings a hand to card through her hair, “It’s gonna be okay, we’ll help Haru.” Umemiya lets his arms fall limp and Kotoha lets go, her eyes red and puffy.

He goes out the door and the bell rings.

’I don’t ever want my little sister make that kind of face ever again.’

Suo and Nirei walk side by side to a neighborhood very close to the school. The eye-patched teen curiously looks around, the eeriness of this place. When they arrive they find a run-down apartment, cracks, mold, and looking abandoned. There’s a certain smell to it that makes Nirei scrunch up his nose.

They hear a sound, a cat is shown to laze on a tree branch.

“It’s kind of like a haunted house!” Suo cheerfully says, Nirei visibly shakes a bit, “S-Suo-san that’s not funny!” They walk up the stairs, they creak and wobble by the weight.

Nirie almost trips by one of the big cracks on the stairs. When both get to the door, Suo noticed that there’s no lock, he narrows his eye, but makes no attempt to barge inside.

He lifts up his hand and firmly knocks. Nirei waits, fidgeting with his pen, and Suo with his arms around his back, shifting on his feet back and forth.

When they hear thudding, someone stumbling, and it loud crash. Both almost mind their manners and barge in before the door creaks open, more like it slams open hard.

Suo takes in the appearance of the other teen that might be ‘Haru’, he has black hair on the left side and pure white on his right, though it has some faded dye on some strands. His face is rather… unkept and messy with makeup, he’s got an oversized t-shirt, hanging off his shoulder and collarbone, and black shorts.

‘Haru’ looks up and squints his eyes, which are unique too, one with gray-blue marble that almost looks like an ocean on a cloudy day, and one that is pure amber, like honey or twilight.

Nirei gapes at the appearance with a slight flush to his cheeks as he opens his mouth, “Um—A-are you Haru? Someone named Fuji told us to… come here.” He brings a hand to rub at the back of his hair, laughing nervously.

’Haru’ is silent but he lifts a hand to rub roughly to his face, “That bastard…” He mumbles harshly, “He leaves me alone for aweekand decides to just come sit his ass down onto of the open seats in my life!” He shouted as he banged his other hand on the doorway. Nirei gives a slight flinch and Suo tightens his hands behind his back.

’Haru’ gives a quiet sigh, “Sorry, I’ve got a real nasty headache right now. So, I’m more bitchy than I usually am.” He runs a hand through his mismatched hair.

Suo snorts a little.

’Haru’ looks at him as he gives a grin, “Anways, my name ain’t Haru, it’s just short for my first name Haruka. Haruka Sakura.” He leans to the side, “Is that all ya needed?”

Nirei straightens up, “We were wondering if you would want to come with us into the town—“

”Nah. Sorry.”

Suo and Nirei both blink, “Huh?” In unison with confusion.

Sakura hunched his shoulders up to his ears and bit his bottom lip, “Look, I-I don’t want to risk going to town with—“ He choked and whispered, “The way I look.”

Nirei tilts his head in confusion, “You mean with all the makeup and ink? You could just wash it off.” He lifts his hand to gently touch the other teens’ cheek and thumb at the makeup.

Sakura froze and then acts on instinct, he grabs roughly at the petite hand, but does nothing. He breathed heavily and flinched away, “I’m sorry!”He yelled out and grabbed his hair in a hard grip, “So sorry. You should leave…” He feels someone gently take his hands off his hair from his harsh grip.

His hands stain a bit from blood, his scalp is probably bleeding. Sakura blinks and his eyes get a bit blurry before focusing on the two teens faces.

Why do they look like that?’

He must’ve said that out loud by the way their faces morphed into something of heartbreak. “I never got either of your names.” He said, out of breath in a raspy voice.

The blonde haired boy flinched and then Sakura realized he and the other eye-patched teen had grabbed both of his hands and held it tight.

“I-I’m Akihiko Nirei! 1st year of Furin High!” The blonde—Nirei shouted out but not in a loud one, like all the crowds in the underground ring.

“And I’m Hayato Suo, also a 1st year.” Suo said, his one eye though, looks grim and dark. The molten red bubbling up like lava.

Sakura breathes in and out, “Furin huh. I was going to go there…” His vision becomes blurry and flickers.

He feels strong arms wrap around him, he’s going to pass out again.

God, why do people always have to be in his business.

”Umemiya!” Kanji greets with a bright smile as he clasps the others hand.

”Hey Kanji.” Hajime greeted with a smile but this one was on edge. He looked around to see the people at the bar, they’re all normal and seem to be having a good time.

Kanji notices the way the older teen’s smile twitched in unease, he sighed, “Alright what’s wrong?” He crossed his arms and firmly looked at Umemiya.

Hajime blinks before revealing a wide smile, “I can’t really hide anything for ya!” He laughed as he made his way to the bar to sit down, the other man joined in to sit next to him.

“Has a kid around his teens come here often? Either black haired or white haired?” Hajime asks as he starts to eat the fruit and vegetable salad one of the waiters have served him.

Kanji blinks before narrowing his eyes, “Why do you wanna know?” His voice oddly low.

Hajime glanced at his friend’s face before letting out a soft sigh, “Don’t worry he’s not in trouble or anything!” He bought his hands up in surrender. “Just wanna look after ‘em, some folks say he could get into some deep stuff that he wouldn’t be able to get out of”. He shrugs.

Kanji gives him a look before releasing a breath he didn’t even know he was holding in, “Yeah, the kid does enter here pretty much on a daily basis. We don’t really give him anythin’ to drink but he sneaks around and is downing a bottle before we even blink!” He lets out a fond chuckle.

“He’s talkative at times, he hangs around Shizuka. Looks after her when guys get too close to her.” Kanji’s voice hardens as he looks on the stage to see the girl singing her heart out.

He brings a hand to rest on the bridge of his nose, “He sometimes starts or is provoked in a fight, so many tables, chairs, and glasses break. Or some people bet him to do something and he does it.” He rubs his forehead, “He’s a good kid though, it’s like that saying how someone wears their heart on their sleeve.” He props his palm on his chin.

Hajime nods along, it looks like the kid isn’t too far gone yet.

“Anways, I assume there’s somethin’ you want to tell me about ‘im.” Kanji raises his eyebrow to deadpan a look to the other teen.

Hajime chuckles nervously as his shoulders slump, “It’s just… it has me thinkin’ about all the other kids in that underground fighting ring. Either there for the entertainment or if they’re fighting.” He sighs as he brings a frozen grape to drop in his mouth. It’s crunchy and sweet.

The man gaped at hearing the words of ‘underground fighting ring’ coming out of Bofurin’s representative. He shook it off, “Well, that’s just how it is, some things are beyond your turf and control.” Kanji brings a hand to pat at the others’ shoulder, “Sometimes ya gotta hope for the best.”

Hajime stares at his reflection in the glass of water, “Yeah… I know.”

Kanji furrows his brows in concern, just then he notices loud cheering and sees Tsubaki step up on the stage. They carry a big smile as they blow kisses in the crowd. The older man smiles and says, “How about you stay for a bit, get all that stress out.”

Hajime looks at him as his eyes stray to the stage, he smiles softly as he lets out a laugh, “Alright, sounds good.”

After Sakura had passed out in Suo’s arms, Hayato gently swept the other off his legs and cradled him in his arms. He stalked off inside with Nirei following along after them. As they entered, both teens looked around, there were cracks, mold, and decaying paint on the walls.

The small kitchen has a pile of dirty plastic trays and takeout food all over the counter and sink. The bathroom door was wide open and Akihiko sneaked a look and noticed the dried blood splatter in the tub, mirror, and faded bloodied handprints on the walls.

He swallowed back the lump in his throat. When they entered the room, Hayato and Akihiko noticed all the alcohol bottles and beer beverages cluttered all over. Hayato was still for a moment as he was vibrating in sadness.

He kneeled down and gently rolled Sakura off his arms and onto the futon, the boy doesn’t even have a pillow. But like it was an instinct, Sakura still asleep had lifted his arms to pillow his head and settled back in a comfortable position. Akihiko had stood there, watching a boy hisagelive here and live like this. He fisted his hands and held back a snarl climbing his throat.

Hayato just sat there, having his hand out and brushing away strands of hair from the other teens’ face. It’s strange for him, for both of them. Both boys developing a fierce protectiveness to someone they’d just met. To feel such heartbreak for the others’ suffering.

Akihiko looked around and found Sakura’s phone being charged in the corner. The blonde haired boy knew he shouldn’t snoop around. But, everything inside him wants to protect the innocence and pure person that is Haruka Sakura. He doesn’t even know why he’s feeling this way.. sure, it’s frustrating and worrying that a fifteen year old boy is being involved in things like this, and you want to help him out, but was it normal for you to want to by his side forever? To be someone he could maybe rely on? As cheesy or cliché as it sounds, it feels like he was meant to meet Sakura.

…Maybe in every universe? It’s like the mismatched haired boy is reaching and squeezing his heart. Akihiko shook his head to get out of these thoughts, he walks over and takes a knee as he picks up the phone, not bothering to unplug it. It’s at 67%. The anxious teen could feel his friends’ eyeing him, carefully and curiously.

Akihiko pressed on the side to turn it on and he sees a Sakura themed wallpaper as the teens’ Lock Screen. He swipes up and he expects a password of some sort so he could give up and stop sneaking around. But the phone immediately unlocks itself and he is sent onto the Home Screen.

He blinks and his jaw almost dropped, ‘How could a fighter not have a password?? Doesn’t he get that someone could take his phone and steal all his information?!’Akihiko spirals with this new discovery as he goes to the photos app, he sees very few pictures. He scrolls to the bottom for the most recent one and it’s a video, he presses on it.

[ The visual of the video is shaky, there’s flashing and bright lights happening. There’s also laughter and cheers all around.

A man appears, it’s Fuji. He has on a wide grin as he switches the camera onto Sakura who is chugging down a drink, his head is tipped back. His cheeks are flushed red as sweat runs down his chin to his neck. He has on full black hair.

Fuji laughed,“Woah Kid! You drinkin’ like there’s no tomorrow!”He brings a hand to pat roughly at the others’ shoulder. Sakura slams the glass harshly on the counter,“So w’at?”He slurs his words as the grin on his face is lazy and easy going.

”It’s not like there’s no one to stop me!” The dual colored haired teen cackles as he hollers for another drink, all the adults chuckle fondly at the teens’ response.]

The video stops there, at the bright smile Sakura has on his face, the lines on the corners of his now grey-blue eyes crinkle, his canines peaking out as he lets out a frozen in time boyish laugh. His flushed face becoming redder and his bangs swaying around from the way he moved to get another drink.

Akihiko didn’t even notice the way he was staring so intensely at Sakura’s face or from the way his grip tightened on the phone. Everything in that video waswrong. It makes his chest heart, the lump on his throat comes back even stronger. He can’t help the way his eyes slightly water at thejoyouslaugh the teen in the video had let out. Sakura should make that laugh around people his age where they’d tell each other jokes, a funny video is shown, or even when they’d get in trouble, heshouldlaugh in those situations. Not this way, not around irresponsible and deadbeat “adults.”

He turns off the phone, he doesn’t want to look anymore. Akihiko wants Sakura to be able to trust him in due time with himself, his past, his secrets, and his pain. The blonde haired boy should earn that trust, he nodded to himself as he brings an arm to wipe at his face.

He puts the phone down as he turns his head to see Suo laying next to the bi-colored teen, he’s caressing him with his hand on his cheek. Sakura breathes in softly as he unconsciously nuzzles into the touch. They both think that he’s probably never felt a gentle or loving touch in his entire life, with him being involved in fighting, maybe that’s how he thinks it is to interact with someone. Out of hate, pain, and pride, their hearts both ache at the thought.

Akihiko sighs as he crawls to Sakura’s other side, he lays on his side as he looks at the other’s face. How peaceful and soft looking, the pretty face that is damaged by bruises, cuts, and swelling. Why do beautiful things always end up hurting and shrivel away from their environments? He huddled closer and as if instinctively he raised his arm to drape at the mismatched haired boys’ waist, and holds him.

Not roughly or tightly, just lightly andsogentle. Because Sakura is precious in this cruel and unfair world, he can’t help but think how it would be if he had met the other teen earlier. Akihiko thought amusedly, he probably would’ve been terrified of Sakura, not from the way he looked but from gruffness and tightness attitude he would’ve give to himself. But as he would spend more time around the other boy, he would soon admire him, befriend him, and become so attached to him.

Akihiko nuzzles closer and buries his head in the teens’ neck, he just breathes in the scent of grime, sweat, and flowers. He can’t believe that he’s this affectionate with someone he’d just met, but then again, something about Haruka Sakura just pulls you in. May it be the gorgeous mismatched marble like eyes, the split colored hair, or his pretty face, and enduring personality. Sakura makes it impossible to not be fond or to not stick close.

’Yeah…’He thinks for a bit, ‘Sakura feels like the missing puzzle piece I’ve been looking for.’

He shuts his eyes, his breaths slowly evenly, he falls asleep. Dreaming of cherry blossoms and a pretty and perfect smile that is directed at him.

Hayato sees Nirei shut his eyes, the other teen seems to be asleep now. The auburn haired boy didn’t think that the meek blonde would be capable of committing such a bold action. Though it’s not like Hayato would think it wasn’t a bad idea, he’d be a hypocrite since he would have also done the same thing. He could tell that Nirei had saw something he didn’t like from the way he was seething, his shoulders were tense and Hayato heard the other grinding his teeth.

It made him lay next to Sakura and just stick close to him, caress him gently, and search for any discomfort on his face. The eye-patched teen noticed how the heterochromatic teen leaned into his touch, like it would just be snatched away from or the teen would pull away from his action. He continued this action until he sees Nirei in his line of vision, laying on the opposite side, and holding Sakura close.

Hayato feels a fire burn in his stomach and heart, it feels like smoke clogs his brain and line. He’s always been an emotional person, an empathetic but fierce person. Hayato has always have a strong sense of maturity, he also has a way of protecting. He has a thought process, it’s good to protect people who don’t have the ability to proper defend themselves, but you can’t take away their development to grow. You have to let them prosper, bloom, and become someone they thrive to be.

It’s why he sticks close to Nirei, the teen wants to grow to be able to stand by everyone’s side, he wants to be able protect himself and others that rely on him. It’s what makes him admirable. Now? It seems like the blonde haired boy his ground a new purpose and a more refined reason to protect. And Hayato thinks he himself has as well.

Watching the slow breathes of the two people he seems to hold deep in heart, it’s alien to him for him to feel this way for others. He’s never had such an intense dedication or commitment for people who just entered his life.

It feels like the fates had brought him these beings to be by his side forever.

It’s a beautiful and wishful view of it all.

Hayato feels his own eye start to droop, he tries to fight off the sleep that’s catching up to him, he wants to keep watch over the beings that is the earth and the sun. But he supposed he could watch them some other time, he would relish in their smiles, their presence, and their cherished moments together.

After all, he has all the time in the world.

He stills his hand to rest on Sakura’s cheek as he leans closer to nuzzle in the others’ mismatched and messy hair, and breathes in deeply. He shuts his eye and dreams of bright sunlight along with storming clouds turning to clear ones as it settles in the sky.

It’s the most peaceful sleep he’s ever had.

Haruka starts to open his eyes, his vision is blurry for a second before bringing clear again. He lifts a hand to rub roughly at his eyes, he sees the brightness and intensity of the sunlight through his curtain-less window. He opens his mouth to let out a yawn, he moves to stretch but he finds his movement to be constricted, he makes a confused noise as he regains his awareness.

His looks to his side to find… the blonde haired boy from earlier! Haruka squeaks as he shuffles back but there’s a tight but steady grip on his waist. What was it..? N-Nirei? Yeah, this Nirei boy has his arm around his waist. Haruka feels the beat start to build up on his cheeks, he turns his head to seeanotherboy. It’s Suo, and that’s when Haruka realizes that the eye-patched teens’ hand is resting on his face.

He feels stream bubbling up in his head and releasing it out from his ears, he’s like a tea kettle going off on the stove. He lays still, he wonders why these two didn’t leave or just fuck off to who knows where. They didn’t have to stay with him, no one wants to stay with him. He’s a disease, an abomination that he doesn’t even know why he was even…born.

He shudders and shook his head, fast and roughly. He knows better than to think like that, it wouldn’t change a whole lot. He hears adingand abuzz.Sakura almost smacks himself on the forehead, he’s supposed to be at the ring!Shit. He wiggled out of the grip and the hold the two teens had on him, he crawled clumsily and saw a text message from the bar owner that gives him pity drinks nowadays. But Jin’s chill and kind of… fun? To hang around with, he’s got this vibe that makes it easy to breathe when Haruka feels overwhelmed at times.

The Ride or Die: Yo Haru, you coming or what?

Yato has on some bored look on his face

???

Also, some creepy dude is looking for you. Told ‘im to fuck off, yw 👍

Haruka chews on his lip as he grabs his phone, swipes up, and types.

Spitfire: Morning to you too.

I don’t give a fuck on what the old man’s mood is.

Wtf? That’s weird.. :/ Thanks for doing the bare minimum, Jin.

Haruka grins a bit as he sees bubbles pop up, Jin had been the one to create the group chat and the names, the dual colored teen didn’t really know why Jin had put his name as that but the eighteen year old just grabbed him by the shoulder when he was sober and said, with a serious face, his orange eyes brimming with an intense blaze,“Haru, I would literally do anything for you, you’re like a stray and feral cat that I’d take care of until the day I die.”

It was mortifying and embarrassing to hear that someone would want to sacrifice and risk everything just for him, Haruka had smacked Jin hard, and ran away from the conversation. He didn’t even get to drink, it made it light and not have a headache when he went to sleep that night. He got out of his thoughts from the buzzing feeling in his hand.

The Ride or Die: yeaaah gm, hope you had a good rest little lotus.

LMAO i love how you give zero fucks 🙏

i know right?? i was all like who the fuck is you??

yw again 🫡

anwayyss, you coming? ya got a match today remember?

Haruka starts to type before pausing, he looks behind him to see Nirei and Suo resting, their soft breathing and snores filling the quietness in the room. He remembers the distress and grim look in their faces when he rejected them on their request. He really doesn’t want to go to the ring right now, he feels worn out, and feels like he’d just get his ass beat over and over again.

He looks back to the message he was about to type and he deletes it as he types in a new message.

Spitfire: Nah, don’t feel like it.

I felt so out of it last night, I don’t feel like puking again.

The Ride or Die: 😲 Haru you’re gonna take a break!!

i’m so proud of you! 👏

i feel like a proud mom all of a sudden lol

dont worry about anything! your reliable big brother will take care of it all! 🫰♥️

Haruka feels his face burn, he fumbles with a reply.

Spitfire:Quit it with your crap.

I hope your bar gets to serve nobody today!

The Ride or Die: D’awww it’s so cute that you don’t want me to be swarm or overworked!!

like i told don’t worry blossom!! 🌸

love ya! 🤗

Haruka complicates on screaming in his palms as he shuts off his phone. He slaps his hands on his cheeks, the harshness and pain makes him snap out of his daze, Jin is a very affectionate and kind person, he says these…thingsthat come out of his mouth that are gentle and sweet to someone like him. He found out that Jin had a little brother that passed away at a young age, he heard the older teen confess that to him when he treated Haruka’s wounds.

Jin told him that as his voice wobbled and his eyes grew watery, said his brother would pretend to not like the way he would dote on him or make him known he’s loved. He said that Haruka had reminded him of his little brother, it’s why he always sticks close to him, holds conversation, and gave him his phone number.

He wants Haruka to call or text him whenever, the bi-colored boy had asked Jin if he was replacing the empty space of his deceased brother and the look on the older teens’ face was one of shock and hurt that it looked so similar to the one Yukine had on that day.

Jin said to him,“You’ve made your own place in my life, you’re not replacing anything Haru. I just want you to know that I’m here. Here by your side.”He gave him a light hug around his shoulders and just had him close. Haruka felt like crying but he didn’t, he just bit his tongue until he bled inside and spat the blood out once Jin wasn’t near him.

He sighs as he stands up to go to the bathroom, it’s such a mess. He hopes that the two teens didn’t peak or enter the bathroom when he was knocked out.

By the time Haruka gets out of the restroom he sees Nirei and Suo are awake, the auburn haired teen is on his phone, fingers rapidly swiping and typing. The meek teen is jotting things down on his notebook, when the dual-colored teen steps into the room, both lit up with soft smiles.

”Good morning, Sakura!”

Both teens greeted eagerly. Their warm and friendly tones through Haruka off as he stumbled to the closet to find some decent clothes to wear.

”Mornin’.” He replies with, gruffly. He finds his binder, a short sleeved turtle neck, baggy jean shorts, and his leather jacket. He looks to the two in the room, he knows they would just turn around or go to the next room if he asks them but he’s too scared to ask them. Would they find it weird if I request them to not look while I’m changing? I mean every person deserves their privacy and they wouldn’t look that far into it.

He shook his head as he stalks off again and enters the bathroom, he opens the door and closes it. He locks it just in case, he changes quickly and notices how both of them didn’t move from their spot, they just continued what they were doing before.

Haruka thinks these guys are weird and he’s supposed to be the weird one so that’s saying something. “You guys ready to go?” He shrugs his shoulder and gestures his head toward the door.

Nirei tilts his head, “Go where?” He looks at Haruka like he’ll do anything he wanted to do with the way he and Suo already get up from where they sat and start to walk at his side.

Haruka visibly tries to fight back the blush building up on his cheeks, “To the town or whatever you guys said yesterday.” He raises a hand to rest on his neck, “I was recovering from a hangover so I don’t really know what you guys said to me, but I canceled a match I had today for this so what’cha got for me?” He asked as his lips pursed in a pout.

Akihiko took a second to get those words to travel around his head before he brightened up, “That’s fine! Me and Suo will show you! We’re gonna get breakfast at Pothos Café!” He skips ahead as he grabs the knob and opens the door, he offers a hand to Sakura, “Can I hold your hand?”

Haruka’s face scrunches up, “Why?”

”Because I want to and it would be easier to guide you so you don’t get lost!” Nirei cheerfully explained.

Haruka gapes as his ears and cheeks twinged with pink, he debates go whether reject the offer. Jin pops in his head, the warmth of another persons’ hand in your own hand. It sounds… nice.

The mismatched haired teen nods as he shakily lifts his own hand and latched onto the others’ hand in a tight grip. Huh. It really is warm, it feels tingly, why does it feel like I’m touching fire? His curiosity in the touching is so deep that he doesn’t notice how Nirei and Suo are already directing him out do his shabby apartment and onto the streets of the local town.

As they walked Haruka noticed all the townsfolk, laughing joyfully and greeting each other politely. Everything’s so different from his old shitty town that he’ll never call home.

They entered a small café, there’s a brown haired woman that hears the bell ring, she looks up from where she was finishing up a prepared dish. She smiled warmly at the teens, Haruka blinked from the sudden softness the woman had greeted them with.

Nirei and Suo fretted with him to sit down and he did, he looked down to see a plate of food placed in front him. He looked up to see the woman staring at him, welcoming and assuring herself that she means no harm from his open her body language is.

She opens her mouth, “My name’s Kotoha Tachibana and I’m a year older than you.” She grins mischievously, “I hear you’re new to Makochi, so I figured I would whip you with some grub to get you settled.”

Haruka finds himself rendered speechless, she’s a year older than him?! But she looks so much older than that! He shook his head slightly and sees the food in front of him, his mouth waters as he tries to fight off the hunger, there’s always a price or something the other wants when you think you’ve hit the jackpot.

“What’s the catch?” He narrows his eyes at her, in suspicious.

Kotoha gave him a soft look, it doesn’t look pitiful or annoyed like all the looks he’s gotten over the past, “Nothing, I just wanna see you eat this if you want to. It’s omurice and some say I cook up a real mean one.” She chuckles in her hand.

Haruka swallows and grabs the spoon, its fisted in his hand. He’s never been taught how to properly hold silverware or even chopsticks right since there was no one that even bothered to teach him.

He scoops up a piece and places it in his mouth, he chews and immediately his tastebuds tingle from the flavor.

His face brightens, his eyes sparkle, his cheeks flush pink, and the corner of his lips are twitching in way that he wants to smile. Haruka swallows and quickly goes for another bite.

He doesn’t notice the looks he’s being given, Kotoha has tears start to build him in her ears as she watches him with fondness and affection. Suo admires this new side of Sakura, how excited and happy he looks from just eating something he’s never tried before.

Nirei clenched his uniform jacket, he already has tears streaming down his cheeks as his lips shake. Sakura looks sosobeautiful. He wishes that moments like these would continue being made as he drowns in the sweetness that is the fated teen in front of him.

It has been four months since Suo and Nirei invaded his life and he’s glad for it. He hasn’t come back in the fighting ring for these past months, though Jin visits him and hangs around him when they the chance to meet up. But his two tiger friends make sure he isn’t alone when they meet up. They’re so protective over him that Haruka can’t help the little skip in his heart.

When he first met Umemiya, he asked him if wanted to attend school at Furin. It’s what he wanted since he first arrived here, but Haruka didn’t think that he was… “stable” enough to go to school with a bunch of unknown strangers, but the older teen nodded with understanding and asked Haruka if he could hug him.

The mismatched hired teen said yes and Umemiya cradled him so gently and tightly that Haruka had burst into tears, he was full on bawling. Nirei and Suo panicked at the sight of a crying Sakura, and even Bofurin’s representative looked horrified on what he had done that he babbled on and one until Kotoha smacked her brother on the head and she gave Haruka a hug as well.

Anways, the four and other townspeople as well as some Furin students helped him feel welcomed in the town, they helped repair and add new things in his apartment. It didn’t look shabby or like the dead live there anymore, there was a specialist in Makochi, he met with Kanji who hugged him as well and asked if he wanted to heal his drinking problem. Haruka had hesitated and said he’d think about it. He eventually agreed and started seeing the old lady almost every week, she let him talk, gave him some input and advice. She never pushed or forced him into doing anything. Said it was up to him and the decisions he’ll make would be for himself, no one else’s can make his choices.

Haruka had vented part of his life to her, not everything of course. He still is sore and traumatized by the recent events when he was fourteen. When he got out of the sessions he felt sort of empty or just exposed, he didn’t feel right. He walked aimlessly and he didn’t even notice that he walked right back into the underground fighting ring, it was a good thing he had Nirei’s hoodie on though. No one recognized him, the crowd was too busy on the fighting in the ring, Haruka had thought of talking to Jin to either give him a drink or to talk him into leaving this place.

And just before he was going to the bar’s direction he felt someone grab his arm, roughly. He immediately clocked them on the jaw and saw a tall figure stumble back, it was a young male. He had fluffy and messy black hair, tattoos all over his body, and slimy snake green eyes. Haruka shuddered.

”Hey come on, why ya did that Haru?”The man stepped closer to him as he towered over him,“Well, it’s okay! Takiishi does it all the time to me. Anyways my names Endo. Yamato Endo!”Haruka went to punch him again but his hand was caught and the stranger—Endo lifted his hand to his lips,“A pleasure. But anyways, wanna join Noroshi? We could use someone like ya! Even though you’ve gotten pretty boring lately yer still cool!”He smiled big and sharp that it gave the younger teen bad vibes.

His hand was still in Endo’s grasped and before Haruka could respond the tattooed man was tackled away by a larger figure. Haruka’s heterochromatic eyes widened as he recognized the figure,“Fuji?”He whispered in shock.

But the adult didn’t hear him as he was fighting off Endo, Haruka felt someone tug his hand away from the scene and he saw that it was Jin,“C’mon Haru, let’s get you back. Don’t look back.”The older of the two had Sakura’s hand in a tight grip as Jin led him outside.

When they were in an alleyway he saw Kanji and Shizuka looking at him worriedly as they asked him questions,Are you okay? You aren’t hurt are ya? Did anyone hurt you?It was so touching and their tender touched had him weeping the whole time. He didn’t know what to do with all these emotions just exploding all at once, he started to babble and ramble about everything, the stress, how he feels so lost, how he feels like he’s burdening everyone. How no matter where he’ll go no one outside of Makochi would ever think he was born a boy. He just kept talking and breathing shakily, Jin kept his distance and he pulled his phone out and to his contacts.

Shizuka had started to sing softly to comfort and bring Sakura back to focus on the present, he calmed down eventually and Kanji was talking to Tsubaki who had arrived when they got an urgent text from Jin. The long haired has a fond affection for Sakura, they treat him as a little brother that they tease every moment and give advice to him. They slowly held out their arms and kept him in their embrace until Suo and Nirei had arrived.

Haruka calmed down and had commented that he didn’t wanted to be alone at all, he didn’t want to be in that cold and lonely apartment. Nirei invited him and Suo to stay at his house, a sleepover as he put it.

They did normal things that Haruka thinks is what you do at a sleepover, they watched cheesy rom-cons, horror movies, told stories, ate junk food, and cuddled together.

Haruka in the middle between the two teens, the both held him in their arms, he opened his mouth, “You know, I had a partner.”

Akihiko stilled and so did Hayato, but they nodded along to listen.

He continued, “It wasn’t really romantic or anything, we were just close friends. It was when I was around thirteen and fourteen. He didn’t really care about my unusual and freakish looks.”

Akihiko clenched a fist around the blanket, he’ll always hate the way Sakura uses degrading words to himself.

Haruka had a wistful smile, “If was refreshing in a way, he was the one that had supported me when I was having thoughts about my gender identity. And gave me a haircut.” His voice wobbled a little, “He used to get into fights whenever people would give me shit for any kind of reason.”

Hayato closed his eye and listened to the way Sakura’s voice choked off.

”We—uh, got into an argument one day. It was so stupid that I regret it so much, we had a screaming match at each other, he tried to get through to me. To make me not make the biggest mistake in my life but I didn’t listen.” Haruka fought off the tears threatening to spill, he bit his lip, “I was outnumbered in a fight, these older guys were targeting since I was around with their enemy gangs, one of ‘em pulled out a—a kitchen knife and he was about to stab me, I was going to move out of the way or at least kick it away but I was so tired that I couldn’t even move.”

Akihiko tightened his grip around Sakura and so did Hayato, they met each others’ eyes and nodded in silent agreement

Haruka brought his hands and rested his palms on his eyes and pressed them hard, “Yukine followed me and when he saw that guy charging at me… he—“ He choked brokenly, “I—I watched him go… and I was sosoangry at myself and cried every night for him.” Haruka rubbed his eyes, “I felt trapped and guilty of everything in that town that—I moved away from there, I said goodbye to Yuki and… you know the rest.

Haruka tried to fight back tears but Nirei and Suo both said, “It’s okay to not be okay, Haruka. You can cry, we’ll be here… it must’ve been painful to get this off your heart.”

Haruka hugged them tightly and they both did, his cries were loud and broken. Like he’d never allowed himself to shred another tear again because he felt like he didn’t deserve to.

As the three teens all comfort each other, Akihiko pressed his lips onto the dual colored teens forehead while Hayato caressed his chest and cheek. Haruka had a mixed feeling of relief and sadness.

As he cried through his sorrows he thinks he feels someone’s fingers card through his split colored hair,My god, my universe, I’m so glad you’re here.

Haruka’s vision blurs as he shuts his eyes, his dreams are filled of tears, warmness, bitterness, warmth, and smiles on his loved one’s faces. And one smile he’d thought he’d forgotten about.

“Haruka!”
A tall but lean figured waved at him, his red haired flowed in the wind, and his teal colored eyes crinkled with joy as he looked at him, his smile bright and charming as always.

Haruka looked back and waved, face blotchy and red with dried up tears, but smiling big and wide for the star he always admired. His canines showed on full display, his heterochromatic eyes opened but blurry with tears,

“Bye, Yukine!”He shouted with a laugh but even if it was full of emotions he still wanted to be joyful.

Yukine finished waving as he holds his hands behind his back as he smiles softly at his pretty best friend in front him,

“Yeah, bye Haruka. Live with your universes.”

End.
